Howdy, and welcome to the reference desk of ColoforniaDreaming.com.

The blog and @CDCR4440 cover the news of the day. This wiki holds the background: dates, documents and numbers you can check, plus links to where they came from. It's written from a pro-Constitution, pro-Second Amendment, pro-free-market point of view, and we say so up front. The facts don't need a point of view, though, so every factual page ends with a Sources box. If a source doesn't support what we wrote, we want to hear about it.

Three sections

  • History

    The American founding and the right to keep and bear arms, set beside Russia's revolutionary years (1889–1920). We look at what was promised, what was delivered, and what today's American socialist movements might learn from it.

  • Narrative vs. Reality

    A common talking point, followed by what the primary data actually says, with links. When a claim is technically true but leaves out context, we say that too.

  • Myths & Legends

    The fun section. Meet Lock the Jackalope, the endangered Common Sense Lizard, the dreaded Good Idea Fairy, and that most elusive beast of all, The "Assault Weapon". These entries are satire, but any real-world fact in them is sourced.

House rules

  1. Satire is labeled. Anything in Myths & Legends carries a satire banner. Everywhere else, we're being serious.
  2. Facts are sourced. Primary sources (statutes, court dockets, government data, original documents) come first. Secondary sources are marked as such.
  3. Quotes are word for word, linked to where we found them. If we can't verify a quote, it doesn't run.
  4. Aim at ideas and policies, not private people. Keep it family-friendly. No threats and no calls to violence. Lock keeps his horns for defense, never for conquest.
  5. Dates: Russian events before February 1918 are given as Old Style (New Style), because Russia used the Julian calendar until then.
